- Cet article
retrace les difficultés de la découverte de la
stratosphère. Dès 1893, des enregistrements effectués
par des ballons-sondes montraient l'existence d'une inversion
de température dans la haute atmosphère. Mais ces
mesures, qui contredisaient les théories en vigueur à
l'époque, ont été interprétées
comme des erreurs instrumentales. C'est seulement en 1902 que
Teisserenc de Bort a communiqué sa découverte à
l'Académie des sciences.

- Abstract
- This paper relates the difficulties
surrounding the discovery of the stratosphere. The records obtained
by sounding balloons from 1893 onwards showed the existence of
a temperature inversion in the upper atmosphere. But these measurements,
which ran counter to the theories current at this time, were
interpreted as instrumental errors. It was only in 1902 that
Teisserenc de Bort communicated his discovery to the Académie
des sciences.
